Last Friday, Mark and I took a day trip up to Willow City (which is out in the middle of nowhere) to see bluebonnets. Because of our rain and fairly hard freeze this winter, they were predicted to be the best show in a long time.
They grow wild and absolutely cover the ground. They are gorgeous. The tradition is to take children, pets - anything you have on hand - out and take their picture in the bluebonnets.
Anticipating our trip last week, I thought for 30 seconds about taking Maddie with us, but she had just gone to Houston the prior weekend (3 hour car trip) and had gotten sick on the way there and on the way home. So I decided against it.
Good thing. We saw almost NO bluebonnets the entire day. As Mark was driving out to the club for golf on Saturday morning, he called and said, "You know that saying about you don't have to go far from home to find what you're looking for?" Uhhhhh. The frontage road 1 mile from our house was covered in bluebonnets.
The bad news is that what I've seen so far is close to busy highways and streets, so you really don't want to take a toddler out in the middle of it. Child Protective Services is surely watching for that right now. Very dangerous. So, maybe this weekend, we can drive away from town a little bit and find a good spot. They are beautiful.
There's a front yard of house about 3 miles from ours which is absolutely covered in bluebonnets, but it's fenced in. I didn't see a sign letting you know how much you could pay to come onto their property for pictures, but if I get desperate, I just might do it.
Have a great weekend.
I'm not doing much stitching these days - but having fun anyway.
Jane
