Finally, finally I have gotten far enough along to think Miss Madeleine/Charlotte/Natalie is worthy to post -- these are the 3 names in the running for the grandbaby.
It's hard to see because it's black, but the background is a Brenda Hart stitch -- I noticed it when looking for a stitch for Lauren's stocking and decided to use it for this piece. I need to go back over it and put in a little metallic stitch to jazz it up ever so slightly (this is part of the stitch, not my idea). I worked on the bullion knot hair today and my fingers got sore so I switched to the wings -- I think they need some more research. Since the shading/pattern is irregular, I thought I might be able to make a buttonhole stitch work, but it's not working out as I thought. I just hate to do basketweave on it -- I'll have to get the books out again!! Maybe something that runs on the diagonal that's easy to shade -- we'll see. Other than that, she's almost done -- just her cheeks are left and the rest of her hair, and she's off to the finisher.
I actually took Frida off the frame yesterday and will take her to be framed this week -- that's a major milestone. Do you ever work on something so long you're sort of sick of it by the time you finish it? I guess that's why we have UFOs -- but I try not to. I'm hoping when I get her back from the framer, she'll be so beautifully enhanced that I love her again.
I drove up to Austin today and stitched with the ladies who stitch at The Needleworks shop every Tuesday and Friday. They are great stitchers and lovely people -- aren't all stitchers?? One lady was working a piece for her soon to be born grandson -- he's due 9 days after our baby. It was rabbits around the border and a spot for his name in the middle -- very, very nice -- stitch guide done by Kim, who works in the shop. Each rabbit had its own personality, I thought. Here's the link to the shop. They have the best selection of threads among the shops I've been in here in TX. http://www.theneedleworks.com/
Once the angel is finished, I'll be starting on Lauren's stocking -- with Kelly Clark's March Santa mixed in when we travel for Thanksgiving. Lauren was here last weekend and we told her it might be 2009 when she sees it finished -- they take soooooo long -- I hate to think I won't stitch anything else while I'm doing that -- which pretty much puts us into Christmas 2009 to see it finished.
It's blustery here in San Antonio today -- overcast, very windy and in the low 60s -- which makes me think "comfort food for dinner and a fire in the fireplace." Crazy how I would have pulled out the shorts in this kind of weather when I lived in Indiana!!
Happy Stitching, friends.
