Stitching Up a Storm in Alamo City

Duh

Not long after I arrived home from India, Mark and set out on another trip. Sort of at the last minute I grabbed the sheep from the nativity series because I had taken them to India. (What was I thinking? That I'd have time or the energy in India to stitch? Actually I knew it was a long shot but I thought it might be soothing in a stressful environment - so I decided to carry it along.) There wasn't much time for stitching in India - maybe 15 or 20 minutes at most. So I was able to work on the bottom border - nearly panicked over the feather stitch (I'd forgotten to take the stitch diagram from the earlier stitch guide.) but finally figured it out. The sheep made it to the next hop and I really did panic when I couldn't remember how to make a colonial knot. I've done them before but they're not burned into my brain. And my brain doesn't recall motions. But it did remember YouTube. There are videos on YouTube showing how to do a colonial knot!!
I think the message is "Get out of the 80's!!!"

Fun surprise in the mail.

I pulled into the driveway recently to find a box on the front doorstep.  I wasn't expecting anything.  No Amazon orders, nothing.

And look what it was!!   A box from Maie Vorp with the 3 Magi all finished!!

I always try not to look to closely at my stitching when I get a piece back because it's too late to fix it.  My attitude is when I drop it in the mail to the finisher, it's perfect. 

So the Magi are absolutely perfect.

If you do a big zoom on this picture and find something wrong, don't tell me!

While I'm building up my courage to tackle the angel wings

.....I decided to finish the Magi from the Orient.  I actually had more to do on him that I remembered, but Mark played golf yesterday and I took the time to work on him.

As I looked through our photographs on iPhoto for a particular picture, I was reminded that I took this Magi on our trip LAST summer.   Then he went again this year!!   Definitely time for him to get out of the rotation.

I'm going to try to finish the angel - and then I can send 4 of the Nativity pieces off to be finished before Christmas.

Angel wings are giving me fits

I should have known they would, after my friend, Laurie talked about them at our last stitching buddies (actually we call ourselves Stitch Witches) weekend.   I'm usually pretty good at random stitching so I didn't worry about them - until I started on them.   See on the left side as you're facing her where I started the feather stitching?  Ugh.  

Of course, my stitching never looks like Amy's stitching, but this is farther from the standard than I'd like.

We're all going up to Amy's in November for a Cooking up a Canvas class with Amy, so if I don't get this done before then, I'll take it up to her and ask for "lessons".

And now I'm seeing that I was paying more attention to the TV or Mark or something while I was beading - the R and the I are too close together.   That will have to be FIXED!!

In the meantime, I think I'll try to finish the Magi of the Orient - the 6th canvas in the series.
