My stitching buddy, Jackie came over on Sunday while Mark was playing golf and we stitched ALL DAY. Since I'm sort of stuck on the Cowgirl, I brought out the Geisha cat, who is also SO CLOSE to being finished. I was able to do all the couching, except for the part around the bottom which I won't do until I put the 1000 bullion knots in - for the coral.
I'm so determined to get SOMETHING finished. Maybe it will happen soon.

When I got back from Amy's, I was really in the mood to stitch, but I had left my canvas and threads, etc with her to ship back to me.
So I pulled out the Geisha cat. She is SO CLOSE to being finished!! I completed the background and started putting the Swarovski crystals in the centers of the silk ribbon flowers. I put all the gold beads in the center of the trellis stitch.
She's made a public appearance already. When I did the tour at the McNay with the Handweaver's Guild a couple of weeks ago, I took her with me to show to them. We have an exhibit called Orient Expressed, which shows the impact that the opening of Japan in the 1850s had on western art. I decided that the Geisha cat surely complemented the art exhibit. They loved her. One lady asked to buy her from me. Highly flattered, but I don't THINK so.

I worked on this piece last weekend during the stitching marathon that I participated in....
I made a lot of progress on the background,
but I also finished the gold trim (except for all the couching that has to be done on the edges)
and we figured out the goldfish. Colleen had pulled a few threads for me and then she found the little wavy stitch, which works perfectly for the tails, I think. The body is a double cross (thank you, Colleen).
I'm going to pull out and redo the tail of the fish on top - long story, but the threads didn't lay in right.
Still so much to be done on this little girl, but it's coming along. Can't wait to see how Bonnie frames it.
By the way, the big diamond pattern that's showing through the background on the right side isn't on the piece - it's the fabric showing through from the chair it's sitting on.

I've been working when I can on the background. I was very skeptical about it at first. I'm not much of an open canvas person. In the meantime - twice now - Mark has said, "That's really complex." My first thought is that he's reacting to my most recent statement, but unfortunately, he's referring to my stitching.
That's big. He never says anything about my stitching.
The silk part of the background is one ply - with a #8 braid cross - I thought the braid would be too heavy - was convinced I needed to back off to a #4, but I'm going to do more before I decide.
Spent an unplanned day today looking for outdoor flooring after I kept waking up at 3am thinking what we chose last week was all wrong. Feel much better today.
As I told Mark today, "I never knew spending money could be so stressful." It's agonizing. A jacket is a 2-year investment (although I would wear it much longer). Flooring is a 20-year investment. Scary to think you might make the wrong choice.

The face is done. I also did the paws this afternoon.
I think I'll go back in with the grey and work around her nose a little bit, but I'm basically done with the fur.
