Stitching Up a Storm in Alamo City

Working on #11

The closer I get to finishing this series, the faster I stitch.   This one has been fun.   The colors are so rich.  As usual, I opted away from the stitch guide instructions and did a few things on my own.   I thought those pine trees were just begging for some overdyes and a leaf stitch, so that was fun.  The jacket seemed to be wanting to be velvet, but I've used quite of lot of it in this series, so I withheld my usual prejudice against Vineyard Silk and used it.   I actually liked it this time.   I haven't tried the Shimmer again since it first came out, so I will do that before long and let you know if I'm totally over my bias.

I think I could have used 2 Vineyard Silks that were a little less similar in tone - the darker one isn't quite dark enough for my taste, but it is what it is!!

We're having friends over for a Super Bowl party on Sunday so I'm not sure how much stitching I'll do this weekend - I think I could finish this up pretty quickly if I could only find an hour or two!

I got the 1/4" lace in the mail the other day that I need to put on the collar of the #10 Leaping Lord.

Little decorating going on....

While Bobbie was here, we went up to Dripping Springs to a wonderful decorator fabric shop.   I've been wanting to redo the room upstairs - here's what I found.

I love these fabrics, but I haven't totally decided yet.  This "feel" may be a bit too elegant for the furniture in the room.

No stitching. Just fun.

Bobbie went home today.  The house will be a little quieter now.   We had a great time together.   Amanda called me 5 minutes after I dropped Bobbie off at the airport and asked if I was in Bobbie withdrawal.   YES!!!

I think Maddie must be in Bobbie withdrawal, too.

Rationale for bling

I'll have to admit I wasn't so crazy about this guy that I've LABORED over for the last few days.   But now that I've added most of his bling, he's a lot more fun.

Is there any lesson here?   I think so. 

Maybe I'll find a few minutes tomorrow to do the toe, and then we'll be on hold until the lace arrives.  I'll probably tent stitch the collar area in white Splendor so I don't have to cram in the lace to cover the area.

Fussy, fussy man

This guy is turning out to be quite fussy and demanding.  As usual, I've departed from the script and have decided a few things on my own.  First, I hope the hat really looks like a hat - not a handkerchief, as the stitch guide called it - or a thong as one of my loyal watchers declared it.  It's a HAT!! 

I padded his coif, put on his cuffs, re-stitched the lining of his coat, gave him a few bullion curls for his "do" and stitched his socks.

I have ordered some very tiny lace, which I'll figure out once it arrives.  I'll definitely put it on his collar and his cuffs - not sure how I'll do it for the collar.  I think he acts like a high-collar kind of person - but the design on the jacket looks more like he has collars with a v-neck - I'll figure it out once it arrives.

So, until that happens, I just have the toe of the sock to finish and the buttons and buckles, etc.  I'm going to use gold beads for the jacket's buttons and some sort of loopy stitch for the vest so it looks like there's a chain between the buttons going down the front.   You'll see (I hope).

Who knows what I'll work on in the meantime.  My dear friend, Bobbie is coming to visit this Friday and will be staying for 6 days - she just had bunion surgery on both feet right before Christmas, so I don't think we'll be running all over town - MAYBE, just MAYBE I'll get some stitching done, but no promises.
